T ELE MA T I C SC U LP T U R E 4

this mobile sculpture (length 21,8 meters, weight 1800 kg) was physically positioned in the austrian pavilion during the biennale of venice 1995. T.S.4 was also positioned electronically in the www of internet.

T.S.4 was driven by the data flow in internet according to an equation comparing the world wide computer newsgroups versus world wide art newsgroups. according to this equation T.S.4 transcrossed the austrian pavilion during the time of the biennale and broke through the wall of the pavilion. internet users were invited to help preventing the machine of reaching the wall by accessing this pages, sending e-mail to T.S.4 or discuss it in one of the above mentioned newsgroups. in all these cases the sculpture was automatically forced to have a break.

the equation

s = p1*nc/na - (p2*e + p3*g + p4*cp + p5*ap)
with
s: speed
nc: #articles in computer newsgroups
na: #articles in art newsgroups
e: #e-mails to T.S.4
g: #guests to T.S.4 home page
cp: #articles in computer groups related to T.S.4
ap: #articles in art groups related to T.S.4
p1, p2, ... p5: parameters
only the extensive art dialogue in WWW, computer newsgroups as well as in the art newsgroups delayed the crash of T.S.4 and the austrian pavilion at the biennale of venice.
